LadyVolNation Introducing UT LadyVol: Vicki Baugh (HEART)

LadyVolNation when I say stand up, I mean get on your feet for this next introduction. Victoria Baugh deserves every bit of it! Let me start by saying I really love this kid right here. Being a LadyVol fan over 15yrs, I have been able to spot those who are truly passionate about the game, but also passionate about that “orange” on they chest, and this young lady epitomizes LadyVol basketball.
When I first watched Vicki play, I honestly began to think, “the next big thing” at Tennessee! Yes that was my first impression. That 6’4 lanky frame hit the court with one thing in mind: WIN! Vicki is a great post player, whether she is at the Center spot or down on the low block, she gives the opponents nightmares. In a game against LA Tech in the 07-08 season she had 6pts/16rbs/4blks/4asst…tell me that just don’t give you chills as a LadyVol fan. Vickie’s seasons have been cut short due to injury. She tore her acl in the national championship game versus Stanford, she had 8pts/4rbs in that game. I call her the HEART of the team because even on that team laden with Seniors, in the biggest game of their season, she screamed out “Let’s Go Ya’ll, Let’s Go” with tears streaming down her face, as she limped away in pain. I watched Nicky Anosike shed tears, and watched Candace Parker get this look on her face that said, we are not going to lose this game. Vickie got her leg wrapped up, and came back out on crutches to watch her teammates win their second national championship back to back. Nation when Vicki is on the floor, this high powered offense flows so smoothly, and the defense cranks up a notch. I truly believe Vicki loves blocking shots and rebounding more than any points she scores.
I know we have been spoiled and have at times taken for granted the “greatness” that has graced The Summit (Charles, Holdsclaw,Catchings, and Candace Parker), but when this one gets back on the court we have to show our appreciation! If you don’t believe me, just watch how this team flows with Vicki in the lineup, observe it for yourself, she is a fearless leader, and she loves everything about Tennessee! That’s what we want right?(imagine Baugh,Kain,Johnson, Bjorklund, and Stricklen as the starting 5)! One more time-standing ovation for Victoria Baugh.

LadyVolNation Introducing UT LadyVol: Sydney Smallbone

LadyVolNation it’s that time again. Meet #20 Sydney Smallbone, a native of Granger, Indiana gives us another 3point bomber from that state (remember Shanna Zolman)?! What we have in this great talent, is the ability and willingness to try her best. Sydney is on a team of players who all can be considered the top at their perspective positions. So unfortunately it’s going to take for her to do one of two things well, or even better if she does both at the same time: play defense and hit her open shots. Sydney will be going into her 3rd year at UT and for her it’s all about playing time. She will have a uphill battle to get her feet on that court, so I suggest for her to use her basketball intelligence to her advantage, because for every great pass, 3pt make and defensive stand she makes, the playing time will be hers. When I see her step on the court, all I want to see her do is shoot that beautiful 3point shot. Another thing that could possibly keep her on the court is if she will hit that elbow jumper. With the offense that Pat Summit runs, that elbow jumper stays open, and we had no one last year that was willing to take it consistently. So Sydney practice that shot, cause it’s always open, and you are a pure shooter, so let’s make it happen. I am just itching for this season to start. Holla back LadyVols!

So Jordan Farmar Wants To Be A Starter?

Laker fans this just in- Jordan Farmar wants to be a starter, whether as a Laker or for another team. Well then Jordan it seems fairly simple to me, “take Fisher’s spot”. It’s no secret that Derek Fisher (who is 35yrs old) has no problem taking a back seat to Jordan or Shannon, as long as the team continues to win. He was more than ready last season for Jordan to take the reigns, but unfortunately Jordan was injured, forcing Fisher to play extended minutes. As Laker fans we all know the potential that Farmar has, but the problem has been consistency. He has averaged around 18minutes a game since he has been in the league, and though the intelligence for the game is there, consistency on defense as well as offense has not added up the way the Lakers or Phil Jackson would like in order to play him extended minutes in lieu of the aging Fisher.

I’ve talked to Mitch a bunch of times and he says he’s got a ton of offers and didn’t consider trading me. It’s just you have to entertain all the offers you get. Since I haven’t got traded, it means they want me here.”

“Derek’s had a great run. He’s probably going to be the guy starting off. I just want to continue to push him.”

But what I need for Jordan to understand, and take very seriously is who is pushing him: SHANNON BROWN! Matter of fact that may be the other way around. Jordan must understand that “tenure” does not automatically mean that you are next in line. Shannon Brown came onto this team just being “greatful” to be here. His whole perspective of being on this Laker team is whatever they want me to do, I’ll do it. His big smile, and eagerness to please has already stapled him in my heart as one of our best role players. Attitude takes you a long way, and we all have watched Jordan sulk and pout when his playing time was not what he desired it to be, but you have to be deserving of the time Phil Jackson gives. All I’m saying is Jordan while you have already pegged yourself as the obvious choice for the next point guard of this star-studded roster, don’t look over your shoulder, rather look to the right of you-standing there is 6’4 211lbs of defense/offensive muscle athletic and most of all “happy to be here”. His name is Shannon Brown.
