Kobe Bryant had something to prove last night as he stepped on the floor at Staples Center, after his poor shooting performance in Denver that resulted in him going 6-28, that he knows how to play this game: His Way! After all the criticism he took for not getting the ball inside more when his shot was obviously off, Bryant responding by taking the first shot of the game, and making it. Kobe would actually finish the game shooting 50% on 14-29 with 37pts/8rbs/6asst. The pain in that right wrist is still evident though on a lot of trips down the floor, where you can see Bryant wincing from the pain or simply rotating it continually. As a Laker fan we get so spoiled, because Kobe never complains about his injury, he just shows up for work day in and day out. I asked myself why his legacy on the court is marred with success that’s usually played through injury? But I guess everyone has their legacy that they will live. How much greater when people realize that he not only played when sick (flu) but with torn ligaments, bad knees, & ankles on his way to his 6th championship. Read the rest of this entry »

The Lakers took to the court Saturday afternoon to take on the high powered offense of the Denver Nuggets, and unlike the previous 4 games, this time they had their anchor in the middle: ANDREW BYNUM. And oh what an impact the InCredible Bynum made scoring 29pts/13rbs/2blks. It’s funny because the first question that came from analysts after seeing Bynum’s season debut was, “do Laker fans still want to trade Bynum?” Read the rest of this entry »

Last night TNT had 2 great games on. With the defending champs, Dallas Mavericks, being defeated by the Oklahoma City Thunder with a buzzer beater by Kevin Durant. Because this is a post about the Laker game, I’ll just let you take a look for yourself at how KD made sure Vince Carter understood that although he idolized him growing up, this was his house. The Lakers lost to the Sacramento Kings last night, 91-100. Here is my perspective.

The game vs the Bulls, was simply turnovers and free throws. This game vs the Kings showed more than ever that Mike Brown better start trusting Darius Morris/Andrew Goudelock soon, or else what Tyreke Evans did will be happening all season. I watched Derek Fisher and Steve Blake get scored on more than 10 times vs Evans, and it wasn’t pretty. Now I’m not here to take away from what Marcus Thorton did, but for everyone who thought Kobe guarded him the whole game, you need a replay..but the way “baby buckets” was shooting it really didn’t matter who was on him. Ah the NBA is back, and it did not fail to deliver in it’s excitement on Christmas day. After watching the Celtics lose by one, on a KG missed attempt at the end, followed by a subsequent choke out of Bill Walker by KG. Then an absolute embarrassing banner raising day for the defending champions, Dallas Mavericks at the hands of the Miami Heat. I really didn’t know what to expect from my new look Lakers. I was nervous and excited all at the same time. Read the rest of this entry »

Well the NBA season opener is upon us. And for Laker fans, this season opener is not without it’s own drama. With the Lakers coming in looking like a completely different team (no Lamar Odom), Andrew Bynum being suspended (NOT HURT)..even though the NBA did reduce his suspension from 5 games to 4, due to the shortened season, and Kobe Bryant dealing with a serious wrist injury, having tore ligaments after a hard fall in the preseason. The Lakers will be facing a very good Chicago Bulls team which features the reigning MVP, Derrick Rose, who seems more hungry than ever to get the city of Chicago back to where it was in the 90’s. The only problem with that is, Derrick will be facing a 33yr. old superstar who understands that his window of opportunity is closing, and it’s all about winning now. A wounded Mamba is nothing to play with, it definitely strikes with no hesitation now. Check out the interview Kobe did with “Pardon The Interruption” host Mike Wilbon. Read the rest of this entry »

Ah when it rains it pours. Word just came from the Lakers that all-star guard, Kobe Bryant, suffered a torn ligament in the preseason game vs the Clippers. The future hall of famer is listed as day to day.

I’ll tell ya, as a Laker fan, it just seems that the hill is getting steeper and steeper for this seasons Laker team. With failed Chris Paul trade, to the departure of Lamar Odom, and the uncertainty of Pau & Drew even being on the team all season (being that the Lakers still hope to land Dwight Howard). It makes it hard to understand what Jim Buss is doing. Nonetheless, I’m a Lakers fan for life, so at the end of the day you have to take the good with the bad. For anyone who has ever had a torn ligament anywhere, you know there is no true time table for healing…I tore a ligament in my finger, and after about 3weeks it was healed…a wrist..ah..may take longer. So that’s 5 games without Bynum from the beginning, and now Kobe..this is going to be crazy! Right now, it’s looking bad.

I would say I can’t believe this..but that would be a lie. Although after what happened in 2003, I thought Kobe would be the last one getting a divorce. But time has passed, and people change..and here he is, after almost 11yrs of marriage to wife Vanessa, and mother of his 2 children, she has filed for divorce. Although TMZ is reporting that Vanessa is filing for divorce because of infidelity, another report says the document states “irreconciable difference”…either way I hate to see this happen, well for the children sake.

The first thing I think about is the “spat” supposedly he and his dad had before he got married, because his father thought he was too young, but someone how they held it together for this long. Read the rest of this entry »
