1944. World War II rages and the fate of the free world hangs in the balance. Meanwhile the black pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program are courageously waging two wars at once — one against enemies overseas, and the other against discrimination within the military and back home. Racial prejudices have long held ace airman Martin “Easy” Julian (Nate Parker) and his black pilots back at base — leaving them with little to do but further hone their flying skills — while their white counterparts are shipped out to combat after a mere three months of training. Mistakenly deemed inferior and assigned only second-rate planes and missions, the pilots of Tuskegee have mastered the skies with ease but have not been granted the opportunity to truly spread their wings. Until now.
As the war in Europe continues to take its dire toll on Allied forces, Pentagon brass has no recourse but to reconsider these under-utilized pilots for combat duty. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, Col. A.J. Bullard (Terrence Howard) awards them the ultimate chance to prove their mettle high above. Undaunted by the prospect of providing safe escort to bombers in broad daylight — a mission so dangerous that the RAF has refused it and the white fighter groups have sustained substantial losses — Easy’s pilots at last join the fiery aerial fray. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies in a heroic endeavor to combat the enemy — and the discrimination that has kept them down for so long.

 

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: BOBBY BROWN-GIRLFRIEND

Now I want you to think back, it’s 1986, (I know some of you were just born, but bear with me). Bobby Brown has just left one of the most successful male R/B groups of it’s time, and he drops his first single from his first solo project: KING OF THE STAGE. The song is called GIRLFRIEND, and for all of us who loved the r/b crooner (gap teeth and all) he couldn’t have picked a better title for his first song. I remember I just got a brand new all red boom box for Christmas, and laying beside it was the brand new Bobby Brown album. I ripped the plastic from that cassette tape, and played that song at least 1K times. So on this Flashback Friday, take a trip back with me, you know when R/B was real! Enjoy (I found the original video..a quality not great but good enough for you to smile at the memories the song holds).

So So Def artist Dondria gives an update about her upcoming mixtape: DONDRIA DUETS 3:90’S EDITION. Letting us know that this will be final installment of the duets as far as mixtapes go. And tries to explain why she has no Jodeci on this mixtape…lol (I believe a Jodeci record will be added). Check it out.

Okay let’s be clear, Brooke Taylor, is the business! Every since I came across her new album: L.O.V.E. (LIVE ON VIRTUOUS ENERGY), I’ve been hooked on her music. The first thing I can say is the music you hear from Brooke is as genuine as her spirit. The 4th generation Japanese/American grew up in Los Angeles listening to Motown and soul music, and you can definitely hear it in her music. NICKI MINAJ’S SUPER BASS TURNS INTO “SUPER GRACE”

Students at the University of Florida has re-written Nicki Minaj’s #1 hit, Super Bass, and turned it into Super Grace. The students won 1st place at a Christian Greek festival. The song was re-written by Raychel Manko. Check out the video, filled with singing & dancing. I love it.

 

NEW VIDEO: DAWN RICHARD-SMFU (SAVE ME FROM YOU)

It’s finally here. Dawn Richard debuted her first solo video for her single SMFU (Save Me From You). The singer/songwriter was on 106 & Park to debut the new joint spoke about this song being personal and from the heart. The song already spoke volumes, and the visual only gave life to her words. She looks amazing in the video, and it only makes the anticipation for her debut album, GoldenHearts, build even higher. Dawn was named to Soul Train’s Top 10 Freshmen of 2012, and besides So So Def artists, and Anthony Q, there is no one I want to see win more. Her journey has been long and hard at times, but like she said via twitter: “When they tell you “you can’t” let GOD show them “you can”!”

 

NEW MUSIC: CASE(@CASESOULMUSIC) FT. DONDRIA(@DONDRIA)-HAPPILY EVER AFTER (REMIX)

All I can do is SMH and smile. What JD has on his hands with Dondria is a female with a golden voice, and a pen that’s invented for the remix. I have given her the nickname, QUEEN OF THE REMIX, and she does not disappoint. JD released this joint today, as a prelude to her new mixtape: DONDRIA DUETS 3: 90’S EDITION! This is definitely a great classic to start with. Dondria allowed her fans a “sneak” listen during her #PhatfffatFriday session, and let’s just say it’s going to be Classic. Stay tuned, DD3 THE 90’S EDITION DROPS 1/6! Enjoy this for now!
